Unit 4: Managing, Accessing and Creating Information Resources in Information, Advice and Guidance

Providing the best relevant, up to date and possible and accessible sources of information

As opportunity and choices open to individuals increase, the need for high-quality information is more important than ever.

Information, within the context of IAG refers to the provision of information without any discussion, it can be given through:

  • printed materials such as leaflets
  • audio-visual materials such as videos
  • computer software on CD-ROM or through the internet and
  • verbal information to the client on a face-to-face basis
  • or through local or national help-line services such as the NHS, Age UK or National Careers

The matrix Standard is the unique quality framework for organisations to assess and measure their information, advice and/or guidance services, which ultimately supports individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals.

There are four key elements to the Standard:

  • Leadership and Management
  • Resource
  • Service Delivery
  • Continuous Quality Improvement

All careers information and advice providers who receive public funding to deliver their services are required to be accredited or working towards the matrix quality standard.
