Course Settings Overview

This unit requires you to have knowledge of the areas of development of children and young people in different age ranges. In particular, you will need to be competent in understanding the needs of the children and young people with whom you are working, particularly during transitions.

By the end of this unit you will:

  1. know the main stages of child and young person development
  2. understand the kinds of influences that affect children and young people’s development
  3. understand the potential effects of transitions on children and young people’s development

Know the main stages of child and young person development

The expected pattern of children and young people’s development from birth to 19 years, including physical, communication and intellectual, and social, emotional and behavioural development

For this unit you will need to be able to describe the expected pattern of development of children and young people from birth through to 19 years. Although you may be looking at and discussing different aspects of child development separately, it
